Last year the the Student Olympic Conference addressed some of the effects and issues of the Games coming to Vancouver. This year we will hold The Next Big Debate, a moderated debate on whether the 2010 Winter Games were worth it for Vancouver as a host city, and Canada as a whole. This is an early look back at the Games, and serves as an opportunity not only to reflect on observations and lessons learned, but also to look ahead to what the future may hold following the Games. As this event is occurring following the end of the Paralympics in Vancouver, it will also provide the opportunity to consider immediate impacts of the 2010 Winter Games, as well as what legacies will follow.
Date: Wednesday, April 7th, 2010
Time: 6 pm - 8 pm
Location: Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, UBC
This event will be free and refreshments will be served.
We encourage all students, staff, faculty members, and alumni to attend this thought-provoking discussion. If you would like to participate as a panel member, please contact info@soc2010.ca.
