The Student Olympic Collaborative (“SOC”) is a student-led initiative created in partnership with the UBC 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Secretariat. It is the largest student-run group focused on the Olympics at UBC. The purpose of the SOC is to help students learn about, experience, and get involved with opportunities, events and initiatives related to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Student Olympic Conference, held last January, focused on engaging students, athletes, and speakers in lively dialogue about issues pertaining to the Olympics coming to Vancouver. This year, the Student Olympic Collaborative has many more exciting opportunities for students, clubs, and staff to get invovled with the Games.
Initiatives for the 2009/2010 year include:
* Full day Conference in January 2010, weeks before the start of the 2010 Games
* Promotion of job and volunteer opportunities for the Games to the UBC student body
* Joint academic events with other Olympic-related groups at UBC
* Social events and cultural learning initiatives aimed at UBC students and visiting students from international universities
The Student Olympic Collaborative is one of the best ways for UBC students to get involved with the 2010 Games.
