There were more than 2500 athletes that participated in the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. While this might be one of the largest cities in Canada that does not mean that there were enough hotels and accommodations to house all of them and their families, trainers, and those visiting to watch the various events. As part of the construction preparations for the Olympics there was an entire Athlete's Village built. Some of the buildings have now been turned into standard housing as extravagant as Yorkville condos.

The Vancouver Athlete's Village is located on the corner of Main and Cambie Streets and consists of eight permanent buildings. They were built to be homes away from home for all of the competitors and housed more than three thousand people from both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It was just moments away from many of the downtown venues, like BC Place where the opening and closing ceremonies were held, and has views of the mountains and the downtown core. This was better than the Etobicoke condos and Japanese homes that many of those staying inside were used to.

Since the end of the games, these units have been offered as some of the most coveted condos in the city. When they were constructed the builders did not only have modern conveniences in mind, but also made use of many sustainability building techniques. The City of Vancouver did their best to create these structures with LEED specifications in mind. You will not find many Toronto condos that are Platinum status LEED properties.

A second Olympic Village was placed in Whistler to house the athletes and support staff competing there. This venue was actually larger than its Vancouver counterpart and was the home of just over four thousand people. If you're looking for a vacation home and would rather have something near one of the nation's best ski hills than go to cottage rentals PEI based you might want to look into purchasing one of these units. They are also green buildings and achieved a gold status rating from LEED.

When the main organizers of the Olympics were thinking of creating housing for the thousands of people who would be flooding into the city their standards and preferences were similar to those that are now looking for modern homes for themselves. You don't have to be working in Toronto sports medicine or an athlete from Portugal to appreciate the beauty and luxury of these complexes.
